A Tale of X-Gamers: ROTDOG’s Roughnecks: Forget Your Jets we have Horses!
Ahh Fast Attack, what can I say..?
Well actually quite a bit, especially as I have actually bothered to include some in my army! Two Fast Attack choices in fact!
As we all know this project stemmed from the roughrider conversions that Lee and I put together for the small 500 point tournament that I took part in a month ago.
I wanted to up them to a full 10 man squad, from the original five, but i just have not had the time to sort the bits out.
So i have left my Roughriders at 5 men. I have not given them any upgrades as apparently people find them quite threatening on the table top, well at least they did in the 500 pts anyway.
Had i managed to put a full 10 man squad together i would have put in a meltagun and a grenade launcher and probably given the sergeant a power weapon. But they just don’t last long enough for the points to be spent on a five man squad, still at 55 points they are cheap enough to draw fire for a turn letting everything else get in to position!
The second Fast Attack choice is pivotal to my battle plan. It’s the Valkyrie Gun Ship.
This bad boy is amazing! One of my favourite vehicles to ever be released for the imperial guard, in fact probably my favourite vehicle in all of 40K.
It’s a great model, I mean come on, it looks like the drop ship from Aliens! Fly the Friendly Skys!!
Not only that but in game it’s amazing. It has the scout move so after set up I can do a full movement before the first turn, it has grav chutes so I can drop troops even when going at full speed, It has a huge array of weaponry allowing me to change its payload to fit the situation I need it for.
None of these points are why it’s so critical to my plan though.
I intend to put my Veteran squad inside it with the Lord Commissar making one amazing Assault team out of them.
All of the weapons in the Veteran Squad have assault weapons, even the heavy flamer is an assault weapon!
The Valkyrie is an assault vehicle so they can assault on the same turn as leaving it!
Add to this the leadership and power of the Lord Commissar, and i have an elite team that should be able to give any one a run for their money.
They will be especially useful for snatching or contesting objectives, or dropping in to take out enemy HQ’s.
Well that’s it for me this week, I’ll be back with some thoughts on how far the hobby side of it has gotten, and with some updated pictures of the Rough riders and the Valk!
See you on the Flipside!
