A Tale of X-Gamers: Babcock’s Spiky Devils: Speed Freaks & a Confession
Fast Attack is the section of the Codex I’ve been most looking forwards to and now that its here I am unprepared.
I decided on the Dark Eldar because I wanted to collect the Hellion models. Really, that was it.
Fast Attack are something all Eldar do well, it must be our keen minds, sharp eyes, and technology so advanced it doesn’t go bing-fwap when you start it up. Here’s what we do: jet-bikes & jump-packs & sky boards, oh my!
Every single flying machine the Dark Eldar can muster is a motorized blade, pretty much, and should be treated as such.
For the first 1000 points, I needed two Fast Attack squads: Hellions for infantry and Reaver jet-bikes for anything else.
The Hellions will have a Helliarch with a grenade launcher. The Reavers get a dark lance.
I shied away from the Scourges because as manuevarable as most Fast attack units are, you kind of expect them to kamikaze into something and that’s that. I’m completely OK with that for what I have and I don’t think the Scourges really fit into that plan nor my play style, which is semi-orkish.
WUT!? DEY HAZ A TANK? THROW EVRFYFING AT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
At this point of the entire project, I have a confession that most GW-gamers (and ex-GW gamers) can sympathize with, I think. I have NOTHING painted.
In fact, all I have is the Dark Eldar Battleforce. I am waiting to reward myself for having painted those, plus the Wracks, before purchasing the Hellions and the Venom. And my Heavy Support unit.
It’s a shame, I know, but I’ve already got the spikes and unattached appendages sorted from my bits-box to convert the Reavers & Hellions. The Conversions on these minis is something I’ll relish and provide loads of pictures of, but I’ve got to keep my sights on one unit at a time.
This halting process of army building is part of why I never could stay focused on the 40K game and stuck more to “little” games like Necromunda, Blood Bowl, and Mordheim.
However, this project’s been going strong and I have pledged myself fully to it. I might have suggested it all, come to think of it…
But that’s where I’m at, you lot. Now, get back to capturing slaves!!
No one sleeps here in the Commorragh!!
