Vengeance! 40k 6th Edition Starter Box Incoming!

On 17 August, 2012 by Lee @ ROTDOG

Soon to be known as the Big Black Box!

It is a week before White Dwarf release day and you know what that means?

Leaked images!  What a set of leaked images we have this month.  It is the new 40k 6th edition starter set containing updated Dark Angels and stonking new Chaos.

How new?

How about a new daemon engine and cultists new, fellas and fellettes?

Marines, marines for all!

Well if it ain’t broke don’t fix it is the axiom that has always served Space Marines.

We have here a squad of 10 tactical marines with a sergeant with a chainsword and plasma pistol, a marine with a plasma gun and another with a, have you guessed yet?  That’s it, a plasma cannon.

No new load outs here as the marine range is pretty comprehensive now but and Dark Angel player will be more than happy to include this squad in their army.

Also on show is a new captain, who looks a bit static but is dripping with DA touches and a librarian who is my favourite of the three characters shown.

I say three as for a limited time only, no idea how limited there is an interrogator chaplain included in the set.

Go buy now!

Some jammy sod got his hands on a copy already!

You may have heard what a fan I am of Games Workshop single sprue plastic characters that it has been producing for Warhammer.

It is my sincerest hope that this trend continues for 40k and this chaplain may be the first such model if it is a limited pack in that is not included on the main sprues.

Sir requested signature units?

Well you know it’s a DA force if it includes some Ravenwing and Deathwing.

These units are already represented model wise though these are the first truly Deathwing models since 2nd edition.

No where near as ornate as the Blood Angels terminators from Space Hulk but they are no slouches in the detail department and they are kitted out with what you’d take in a ranged unit.

If you do not have any terminators in your 6th edition army then there is something wrong with you.

The classification of power weapons means that terminators are even harder to kill so get them in!

Blurry pic is blurry.

I have a large Emperor’s Children army that has not seen the light of day since 4th edition.

With the move to the competitive but dull current codex I just didn’t feel the vibe anymore.

My noise marine terminators and vehicles were just proxy models now except in Apocalypse games and I have only ever played one of those.

But if the rumours about the soon to be released Codex Chaos Space Marines are true and with the ability with allies to field my traitor guard or proper daemons alongside my chaos marines I can see them being dusted of and being joined by some Word Bearer allies.

I’m horny, so horny, horny, horny!

What I love about these new Chaos models is that for the first time they look like the artwork that has always graced their codexes.

The armour is warped and covered in detail rather than just having a few pointy edgings to distinguish them from loyalists.

Part of the reason for this is that the majority of the chaos marine range is old.

It hasn’t benefited from the computer assisted plastic model creation techniques all model GW kits now have.

If this is a preview of the new chaos range then I am already sold!

No, not a dreadnought, a Hellbrute!

This is one of the new models rumoured to be in the new codex, a Hellbrute.  It is not entirely clear whether this is a replacement for the chaos dread or an additional entry to the list.

Undoubtedly this will count as daemonically possessed in my mind which means a 5+ invulnerable save, cause fear and more than likely have the ‘It Will Not Die’ USR meaning it can regenerate hull points.

How many for you Mr. Craven?

But look at this thing, look!  It’s amazing.

I have heard that the back is a mess of daemonic flesh and that it is the front that bears the majority of the armour plates.

Homicidal armoured maniac, I choose you!

To round off the marine part of the chaos list are some chosen armed with a variety of weapons.

How practical these will be outside of playing the box missions (if there are any) is debatable but as mix in models they are superb.

The chosen with boltgun evokes the design of rogue trader era chaos renegades!

We’ll build a better world!  Really?  You and your mates look like that and you think you’ll build a better world?  Dicks.

Cultists are back baby!

Back?  Of course back!

If you played second edition like me then your armies would have been joined by daemons, beastmen, chaos warriors and cultists!

This bodes well for 6th which so far has gone to some lengths in the later fifth edition codexes and new rulebook to inject the older more esoteric units back into the grim future.

So…much…awesome!

Well there you are.

Isn’t that great.

Damn GW and its plastic crack.

Just when we are moving away you drag us back in!

I was discussing this release with Allen earlier and he said he would swap out his Dark Angels as he wasn’t going to use them.

But whilst writing this I realised, allies!

Both these forces are the groundwork of introducing some allies to your existing armies.

Same goes for Black Reach.

I’m off to wipe the drool from my chin, till next time.
